Dr Wei Lun Wong is a New Zealand-trained Specialist Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon with interests in reconstructive surgery, burns and scar management, skin cancer surgery, hand surgery, and aesthetic surgery.
He graduated from the University of Auckland School of Medicine and undertook specialist Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery training across New Zealand’s major hospitals, becoming a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2023.
In 2023, Dr Wong completed New Zealand’s only dedicated aesthetic surgery fellowship at the New Zealand Institute of Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery (NZIPCS). This was followed by a 12-month international fellowship in burn care at Uppsala University Hospital in Sweden, where he refined his expertise in the management of major burns, complex wound care, and secondary burn and scar reconstruction.
Dr Wong returned to New Zealand in 2025 as a Consultant Plastic and Burn Surgeon at Middlemore Hospital. He is one of five surgeons involved in the care of major burn patients at the National Burns Centre.
Alongside his clinical work, Dr Wong is an Honorary Lecturer at the University of Auckland and is involved in research, teaching, and surgical training. He values contributing to the education of future doctors and surgeons, while supporting ongoing improvements in patient care through evidence-based practice.
Dr Wong is known for his calm, approachable, and thoughtful manner. He believes in taking the time to listen, providing clear and practical advice, and working closely with patients throughout their treatment journey.
Wei-Lun now welcomes referrals to Ormiston Hospital.
